WABENO — Put together a bass fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and strummin’ guitar and you have the makings for a great bluegrass band. Add to that a vocalist of the year, Grammy nominations and award-winning albums and you have the internationally recognized bluegrass band, The Special Consensus!

Mark your calendars and buy tickets now to attend a night of bluegrass music with The Special Consensus! The concert is Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 7:00pm in the Nancy Volk Auditorium, 4325 Branch Street in Wabeno. The night of lively, toe-tapping entertainment is sponsored by the Wabeno Area Players.

Tickets are available in advance at www.wabenoareaplayers.org. They cost $15 for adults and $10 for students in advance, but tickets are $20 for everyone at the door.

The Special Consensus is a four-person acoustic bluegrass band that formed in 1975 and released the first band recording in 1979. The Special Consensus members are Greg Cahill, leader/banjo; Dan Eubanks, upright bass; Michael Prewitt, mandolin and the 2023 IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year Greg Blake, guitar.

The Special Consensus has appeared on countless cable television shows (including The Nashville Network), on National Public Radio programs and on the Grand Ole Opry at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. The band has also performed in concert with many symphony orchestras in the USA and in Canada. International tours have brought Special C to the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Ireland, South America and Australia.

The Special Consensus has released 21 recordings; the seven most recent recordings have collectively received seven International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards (including one for Album of the Year in 2018 and one for Song of the Year in 2020) and two Grammy nominations. The most recent band recording, “Great Blue North”, on Compass Records, is the band’s tip of the hat to Canadian songwriters and included Canadian musician friends of the band on several songs. The Gordon Lightfoot song “Alberta Bound” won the 2023 IBMA Collaborative Event of the Year Award.
