Most musicals are in rehearsal at least four to six weeks. The one coming up locally this Saturday was just a week.

It’s Waconia Community Education’s summer musical “Frozen JR.”, and the culmination of a week-long theater camp covering acting techniques, staging, sets and costuming, leading to a full production.

The camp going on this week brings together over 100 kids, according directors Bailey Fields and Melissa Marohl. That includes 80 cast members and 20 on the production side. Cast and crew feature a wide range of ages and experience – from fourth graders and other young people new to theater to a few veteran recently graduated seniors who are sticking around for “one last” school production.

Disney’s “Frozen JR.” is a story of true love and acceptance between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen JR. is sure to cool these warm summer days yet thaw even the coldest heart.

The community is invited to the free performance which takes place Saturday, July 20 at 5 p.m. at Waconia High School in the Performing Arts Center.
