Another Cleveland school board member steps down, the fifth in the last year
A longtime Cleveland Metropolitan School District board of education member has resigned, making him the fifth board member to step down in a year's time. Robert Heard Sr. has been on the board since 2004 and previously served as the board’s chair from 2007 to 2009 as well as president of the Ohio Association of School Boards from 2021 to 2022. Heard did not list a reason in the resignation letter he sent to Mayor Justin Bibb on July 11.
Jesse Owens' high school is trying to revive its track team

Siegal Lifelong Learning names new director of Jewish Lifelong Learning
Case Western Reserve University’s Siegal Lifelong Learning program announced Dafna Ben-Yosef as its new director of Jewish Lifelong Learning, according to a news release. Ben-Yosef earned her Master of Arts degree in bioethics from The Ohio State University in Columbus and a Ph.D. in medical sciences from the Technion Institute of Technology in Israel. She also earned her bachelor’s degree and Master of Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Solon High School received two awards at the Values-in-Action Foundation awards dinner on June 6 at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights. Class of 2024 graduate Isaac Bai was honored with the Eric Scott Russell Student Kindness Award, which recognizes students who consistently demonstrate kindness, caring and mutual respect in interactions with their peers and adults, according to a news release. Bai was involved in Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s Ohio Student Safety Advisory Council and also served as a Kindland student ambassador.
