Preview: Wake Forest FUNGO host Danville Dairy Daddies looking to even season series

On Thursday, May 30, the Wake Forest FUNGO will take on the Danville Dairy Daddies at Wake Forest.

The two teams faced off in the season opener, as the Dairy Daddies took down FUNGO 3-0.

    Scouting FUNGO

Wake Forest is coming off their first win of the season, taking down the Carolina Ducks at home 6-2.

FUNGO came into the matchup 0-2, falling in the first two games of the season, both of which came on the road. But FUNGO now grabs their first win in their first game in Wake Forest and their first win under new head coach Trevor Schock.

JonAlan Richardson and Nick DiCarlo have played significant roles in FUNGO’s success at the plate this season.

Richardson led Wake Forest to their first win, putting up three hits, three runs and an RBI against the Ducks.

DiCarlo has six hits, three runs and two RBIs on the season.

    Scouting the Dairy Daddies

The Dairy Daddies started out their season on a two-game win streak, taking down Wake Forest and the Sandhill Bogeys.

They took down the Bogeys 16-15 despite being outhit 11-8. Dairy Daddy batter Connor Plaster hit a walk-off for the win.

Scoring 16 runs on just eight hits is likely a reflection of the poor pitching performance by the Bogeys despite their success at the plate.

    Last matchup

The last time these two teams went head-to-head, FUNGO fell 3-0 in the season opener.

Eli Snelson was electric on the mound, striking out nine of 12 batters faced and did not allow a single hit or run.

DiCarlo led the team at the plate, hitting three balls but could not get home on any, despite one coming as a double.

The Dairy Daddies had only three hits, one less than the FUNGO but two of the three batters reached home with the other run coming off an error.

Brock Duff, Turner Junkins and Eric Boggess all had good performances on the mound. Duff struck out three while allowing just two hits in four innings. Junkins and Boggess pitched four and three innings, respectively, striking out four and allowing just one hit.

    Gameday

While Flaherty Park is under construction, the game will take place 10 minutes down the road at Heritage High School.

The first pitch is set for May 30 at 6:30 p.m.
