On June 5, the Wake Forest FUNGO hosted the Coastal Coconuts at Heritage High School.

The game was important for both teams, as it was the season opener for the Coconuts while it was a chance for Wake Forest to bring their record to an even 4-4.

    How it happened

The Coconuts took an early 1-0 with a run in the opening frame, and after adding two more runs in the top of the fourth, they held a 3-0 lead.

Wake Forest responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth and sixth to narrow the deficit to 3-2, but two runs in the top of the seventh for the Coconuts brought the lead back up to three.

Following the second two-run frame by the Coconuts, Wake Forest turned on the heat and the game saw a significant change in momentum.

In the bottom of the seventh, FUNGO scored four runs, taking their first lead of the game 6-5.

FUNGO further increased that lead in the bottom of the eight with two runs. They held onto the lead for an 8-5 victory.

    Player of the game

Pitcher Alex Johnson earned FUNGO Player of the Game with four strikeouts, four hits allowed and a win in five innings pitched.

    Up next

Wake Forest will hit the road for East Clayton Community Park in Clayton, N.C. to go head-to-head with conference rival Clayton Clovers on June 6 at 7 p.m.
