Despite quiet Friday Night on White, police report two fights among teenagers

Two separate fights involving teenagers were reported at a popular community event in Wake Forest Friday night.

Police were only able to confirm one of the reports of fighting at the Friday Night on White concert series. But town officials did confirm that the involved parties dispersed once officers arrived.

In one of the incidents, officers commanded a 17-year-old (believed to be involved) to stop running. He failed to comply and had to be restrained.

Police say petitions will be sought against this juvenile.

April’s iteration of the series saw numerous instances of fights among unsupervised minors. Town leaders have pleaded with parents to keep a closer eye on their kids, and with kids to refrain from fighting at the event altogether.

Some downtown business leaders responded by shutting down their businesses early for June’s concert, which was cut short due to bad weather.

The town considered implementing a curfew for Friday’s event, but opted to adopt a “wait and see” approach with a decision on a possible curfew contingent on the collective behavior displayed Friday.

It remains to be seen whether a curfew will still be considered by town officials.
