FUNGO down Carolina Ducks to secure season series win

    By Joseph Ellsworth,

On June 18, the Wake Forest FUNGO took on the Carolina Ducks 6-5.

The win marks their second in two games played against the Ducks this season, and with no more matches scheduled this season against the Ducks, FUNGO win the regular season series.

    How it happened

Wake Forest got on the board first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first, but the Ducks took a one-run lead in the top of the third with two runs.

Two runs after FUNGO tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the Ducks retook their one-run lead in the top of the sixth and extended the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh to take the 5-2 lead.

From there the momentum took a major shift. The FUNGO scored three runs between the seventh and eighth innings, tying the score heading into the ninth.

After a runless frame for the Ducks in the top of the ninth, Hudson Cepparulo stepped up to the scale in the bottom of the ninth with bases loaded and two outs.

With a pitch count of 2-2, Cepparulo nailed a shot just between the right fielder and centerfielder, earning the 6-5 walk-off RBI single.

    Key performances

While Cepparulo was the hero of the day with the game-winner, he was not the only reason for the FUNGO victory.

FUNGO pitcher Sebastian Mizener led the way at the mound, earning FUNGO Player of the Game. Mizener pitched five innings, striking out six while allowing only two hits.

“I was just trying to throw strikes,” said Mizener. “Did what I had to do to give the boys a chance to win.”
