Minnesota #DNR Conservation Officer Reports-July 15, 2024
CO Tom Hutchins (Crookston) reports speaking at a lake association meeting. Time was also spent working AIS enforcement and checking boaters and anglers on local lakes. CO Andrew Ladzinski (Bemidji #1) spent time patrolling local lakes, OHV trails, and following up on various complaints. He continues to receive multiple nuisance bear calls, with bird feeders and garbage being the common problem. Enforcement action was taken for various watercraft violations, youth riding OHM?s (dirt bikes) on public roadways, with no safety certification, and angling without a license. Anglers report the fish bite is slow, with a few walleye seen in livewells.

Minnesota is one of the top states in the country when it comes to evictions. According to national data, the Twin Cities are second in the nation in eviction increases since before the pandemic, with nearly 12,000 filings in just the last year.

Elk Lake Park playground renovation begins
PHILLIPS — The work to install $222,000 of new playground equipment is now underway at Elk Lake Park in Phillips, according to a press release from the Elk Lake Park Playground Committee. The playground will be installed quickly for the kids to enjoy but the fundraising effort continues with $57,000 still needed to complete the campaign. A Barnes man is dead following possible health emergency while fishing
Douglas County authorities are investigating a death while boating on Red Lake near the town of Wascott. According to the Douglas County Sheriff, authorities were called to the scene in the area of 10428 E Red Lake Drive at 7:22 p.m. on Friday, July 12. The victim was later identified as 71 year old, Michael Andersen of Barnes, Wisconsin.
ATV rider found dead on central Hibbing street, police say
HIBBING, Minn. — A 38-year-old man is dead after an apparent ATV crash early Monday morning in northern Minnesota.Hibbing police say the victim was found unresponsive just before 5:30 a.m. in the middle of Seventh Avenue West, just northeast of Hibbing Cinema 8. He was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.Police are still investigating, and say the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office will later release his identity and exact cause of death.
