Chicken Tenders Recalled In Ohio Due To Possible 'Metal' Contamination

Over 150,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and chicken tenders have been recalled around the country due to a possible metal contamination.

Perdue Foods, Inc. has recalled 167,171 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products after it was determined they could potentially be "contaminated with foreign material, specifically metal," according to a recall notice shared August 16 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The affected products — 22-ounce (1.38-lbs) Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets , 29-ounce (1.81-lbs) Perdue Chicken Breast Tenders , and 22-ounce (1.38-lbs) Butcherbox Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets — were produced March 23, 2024, and were distributed to retailers nationwide as well as sold online. The products also feature the establishment number "P-33944" as well as a Best If Used By date of "03 23 25, both found on the back of the package.

According to the USDA, the recall comes after several consumer complaints regarding metal wire embedded inside the product. There have been no confirmed reports of injuries or adverse reactions as a result of consuming the products. Anyone who has purchased the impacted products are urged not to consume them and to either throw them out or return to the point of purchase.
