A teenager was stabbed at a carnival held over the weekend at the mall in Charles County.

On April 27 at 9:05 p.m., officers were working at the Reithoffer Spring Festival in the parking lot at the St. Charles Towne Shopping Center when a 15-year-old male approached and said he had been shot, according to a release from the Charles County Sheriff's Office.

The officers provided first aid until EMS responded and transported the teen to a hospital via helicopter.

It was later determined, at the hospital, that the boy had a stab wound and not a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office release.

A preliminary investigation revealed the boy was with a group of teens and engaged in an argument with another large group of teens in the lower lot of the mall and that at some time during the dispute the victim was stabbed, the sheriff's office reported.

The Reithoffer Carnival was being held at the mall, and the company has not released a statement on the stabbing as of press time.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call sheriff's office Detective Cooley at 301-609-6502
