On May 25, Charles sheriff’s officers responded to Ravenglass Road in Waldorf for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers observed what appeared to be three holes in a second-story window, presumed to be from a handgun, charging documents say. There were six occupants in the house, including a 15-year-old and 11-year-old.

The room of an 18-year-old resident was struck by bullets. When the bullets came through the window, the teenager was sitting in a gaming chair and one round struck his chair inches away from the base of his skull, the documents said.

He reported feeling as if he was struck by a round, but responding EMS found no signs of physical injury, and what the teen had felt was either debris or the force of the bullet, according to charging documents.

A search of the room yielded one round on the bedroom floor. A search by K9 officers for additional casings came up empty.

While the search was being conducted, a neighbor told officers that he had seen a white Nissan sedan drive away moments after the shots were fired, the documents say.

Upon speaking with another resident of the house, she advised that Dewayne Carlos Murphy, 41, had been making comments on her relationship for some time, charging documents said.

Through the investigation, it was determined that Murphy drives a Nissan passenger car. Officers responded to his residence at Amber Leaf Place in St. Charles and located his white Nissan. Inside in plain view officers allegedly found one spent bullet casing, the documents say.

Officers hastily obtained a warrant while stationed outside Murphy’s residence and served it.

Murphy is charged with six counts of first-degree assault, using a firearm in a violent crime and various other gun charges.
