A Waleska man convicted of terroristic threats will serve five years in prison, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Christopher Dean Bowling, 29, was found guilty June 13 of terroristic threats.

On June 21, Superior Court Judge Shannon Wallace sentenced Bowling to serve five years in prison, the maximum sentence under Georgia law for this charge.

At the sentencing hearing, Wallace said that Bowling is not a good candidate for probation because he has repeatedly disregarded prior court rulings ordering no contact with the victim.

Cherokee Sheriff’s Office first began investigating domestic violence involving Bowling on July 28, 2023, when deputies responded to a disconnected 911 call from a Waleska home.

According to the district attorney’s office, on July 28, 2023 Cherokee Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disconnected 911 call from a Waleska home. A woman there told authorities that she and Bowling had been arguing and he wouldn’t let her pack her belongings to leave.

During the investigation, the woman shared a four-minute audio recording of a prior domestic dispute in which she said Bowling strangled her while a child was present. In the recording, back-and-forth bickering could be heard, followed by a heated argument then the sound of a scuffle. At this point, the woman went silent for about 30 seconds, prosecutors said; she did not answer questions or respond while Bowling screamed obscenities at her and suggested murder and suicide.

The woman testified that during those 30 seconds of silence she was unable to respond because Bowling was strangling her.

Bowling was arrested, indicted, and on trial for three charges: aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, and cruelty to children in the third degree. On June 13, after the two-day trial, a jury found Bowling guilty of one count of terroristic threats and acts and not guilty of the other charges.
