One ORR the other: School board makes tough choices ahead of opt-out vote
With the upcoming opt-out vote on Sept. 17 looming, the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland School Board was forced to make a pair of tough decisions at their Aug. 12 meeting. The choices revolved around the district's plans for a failed or passed opt-out, with either option having significant implications for the future of the district. Should it fail, the district will be split into an elementary school and middle/high school, with which site would serve which function yet to be decided. Should it pass, the board would seek survey data from resident voters as to whether they would like to see a new school constructed in Ramona, or at the previously discussed location at the corner of Highway 81 and 223rd Street, though the second option would require an additional bond vote.
