SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — As we sit just two weeks from the start of the 2024 high school football season in Texas, Wall Hawk quarterback Gunnar Dillard has opted to sit out the season.

Dillard, who has been the quarterback for the Hawks the last two seasons, is committed to the University of Oklahoma for baseball, and Wall head coach Craig Slaughter confirmed to KLST Sports that’s where he wants to focus his efforts.

Dillard led Wall to an 11-3 finish a season ago, when Wall reached the state quarterfinals. During the season, he was also named district Offensive MVP after throwing for 17 touchdowns and 16 rushing touchdowns accounting for almost 1,900 yards of offense.

Slaughter said junior Landon York and senior Caleb Braden are the frontrunners to lead the Hawks as starting quarterback this upcoming season as they move to a pass-based spread offense this fall.

Dillard joins Luke Kemp, who is also turning his focus to further his baseball career to the collegiate level.
