    Pet Adoption

    Duplin County Animal Services would like to thank all Veterans (Active and Non-Active), military along with our first responders by offering free adoptions for approved adopters for the month of July. Proof of services is requested. Please come out to 287 Fair Grounds Drive in Kenansville to visit all adoptable cats and dogs.

    Freedom Fest

    The Freedom Fest is a celebration in Chinquapin after Fourth Of July at JCO Campground at Lee Baysden Pond with a watermelon eating contest, bounce house, gellyball, photoshoots, fishing and more actives with live music and food. The event starts at 5 p.m. on July 6 at 211 Baysden Pond Road in Chinquapin.

    Ice Cream Social

    The Wallace Chamber of Commerce is hosting an ice cream social at Scoops. This after hours event is a great way to get to know business professionals and network with a fun treat. Please RSVP to the Wallace Chamber of Commerce by July 2. The event will run at 308 E Southerland Street in Wallace on July 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

    New business webinar with JSCC

    The Small Business Center at James Sprunt Community college is hosting an online webinar on how to start a new business or side hustle this fall with the right mindset and vision. The presenter, Steve Carver, is an active NC entrepreneur with over 50 years business ownership experience. The event series runs on July 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and you can sign up on JSCC’s Small Business Center website.

    Duplin County StandDown

    Benefitting Veterans and their families, the American Legion Post 156 in Wallace is hosting a StandDown event. The program will offer employment services, medical screenings, housing referrals, VA benefits, food, toiletries, barber services, clothing, and legal services. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 12.

    Freedom Now Women’s Conference

    New Hope Christian Academy is hosting a conference with free admission at Wallace First Assembly with guest speaker Kim Coley Worship by Cayse Woods and The Refuge. The event will run on Friday July 12 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday July 13 at 9:00 a.m. The event is sponsored by Meyers Family Ministries at 212 West Main Street in Wallace.

    Grand Opening and Giveaway

    The Born Anew Blessing Barn & Fellowship Hall is hosting a grand opening on Saturday July 20 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be providing free food, clothes, household items, toys, and infant items at 645 North Blizzardtown Road in Beulaville.

    VAD Board Meeting

    The Duplin County Voluntary Agricultural Districts (VAD) Board is back in session. The VAD is a voluntary program that land owners can enroll in when property is in land use to show that the land is used for agricultural purposes. The Board will have its next meeting on July 23 at 6:30pm at the Lois G. Britt Agricultural Center in Kenansville.

    Vacation Bible School

    Wallace First Assembly will be holding our Community VBS “Come and See, Jesus Makes All Things New!” from July 27-31. On Saturday, Family Day runs from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. From Sunday to Wednesday, ages two to twelve will be able to participate for the week.

    The pantry at Duplin Christian Outreach Ministries, 514 S. Norwood Street in Wallace is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-11:30 a.m. DCOM will provide a referral to verified applicants. Call 910-285-6000. The DCOM Mobile Pantry vehicle services Wallace, Magnolia, Faison, Albertson, Mount Olive, Warsaw and the Scott Store community area. Qualifying seniors (65 or older) and disabled individuals who are not able to visit can call 910-285-6000 or 910-285-6500 for accommodations.

    Duplin County Alzheimer’s/Caregiver Support Group is held the first Tuesday night of every month, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the senior center located on 213 Seminary Street in Kenansville.

    The Duplin County NAACP holds monthly meetings on first Sundays at 4 p.m. at Shaw Temple AME Zion Church on 1788 NC 11 Hwy in Rose Hill.

    The Helping Hands Pantry at Wallace Presbyterian Church, 205 W Main Street in Wallace is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-11:45 a.m. DCOM will provide a referral to verified applicants. For information, call 910-285-6000.

    Every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there is free food, basic needs items as well as health screenings and several other resources available to the public at the Shacklefree office located at 224 W. College St., Suite B, Warsaw, N.C. For information, call 910-226-8138.

    Every first and third Wednesday of the month, the city of Wilmington Parks & Rec Department hosts a Wheelchair Basketball Open Gym from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the MLK Center on 401 S. 8 St. Contact Abby Smith at 910-772-4170 if you have any questions or concerns.

    Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity will launch HabiTours — monthly opportunities for individuals, civic groups, companies and anyone interested in learning more about Cape Fear Habitat, to tour its Education and Construction Center at 3310 Fredrickson Rd. in Wilmington starting July 16. HabiTours will then take place regularly on the second Wednesday of each month from noon to 1:00 pm for individuals and groups of up to 15.

    The Duplin County Health Department is offering Diabetes Self Management Classes from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at 340 Seminary Street in Kenansville.

    Duplin County Beekeepers meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Duplin Extension Center.

    The Duplin Democratic Party County meetings run the 3rd Thursday of the month at 7pm at James Sprunt Community College in Monk Auditorium. Open to all.

    The Duplin County Republican Party meeting is held the second Tuesday of every month. The location varies. For information, visit duplingop.com.
