Area man found guilty in point-blank shotgun death of girlfriend
A jury in Surry County returned a guilty verdict last Thursday against Brandon Thomas Shaw who was charged with the 2020 murder of his girlfriend Sierra Henderson Ashburn. Shaw, of 181 Woodville Church Road, near the Westfield community, was convicted of first-degree murder after a four-day trial according to Surry County District Attorney Tim R. Watson. Found guilty, Shaw was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole by Surry County Senior Resident Superior Court judge Angela B. Puckett. ...

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A gas station clerk shot a man after she observed him shoplifting Monday morning, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department. According to police, officers responded to the Mobil gas station at 500 Akron Drive in Winston-Salem after a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they met with Katherine Harris, an employee at the gas station, who told them she observed Alvis Viotis Hackney shoplifting from the store.
