Project to enhance Stone Mountain’s Main Street to begin Monday, city officials say
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Crews are scheduled to begin work on a project to enhance Stone Mountain’s Main Street on Monday, July 22, according to city officials. The project will include milling, repaving and striping “to improve road safety and maintain infrastructure integrity throughout the area,” Stone Mountain officials said in a press release Tuesday.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Zoning changes by a Georgia county that some residents say threaten one of the South’s last Gullah-Geechee communities of Black slave descendants can’t be challenged with a referendum, an attorney said Monday in a letter to the judge considering a petition by local voters.
Athens Area Humane Society offers free vaccines to 200 pets
The Athens Area Humane Society is hosting a free pet vaccine clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the facility at 1030 Mitchell Bridge Road. The clinic will operate on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to the first 200 pets from households in Clarke, Jackson and Madison counties.

The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office announced that 23-year-old Azaria Shante Burton of Peachtree Corners has pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with the October 2023 death of her 5-year-old son, Jayveon Pruitt. The charges include malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault family violence, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, first-degree arson, criminal attempt to commit a felony, and misdemeanor tampering with evidence.
