SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Education Foundation held their fourth annual Cornament on the turf field at Station Park. Forty-eight teams competed in the heat. There were four rounds of round-robin play followed by a single elimination final round. The Sparta Education Foundation provided grants to Sparta public schools with the proceeds of their fundraisers throughout the year. Community events are planned in Hawley, including free evening movies in Bingham Park
Movies in Bingham Park, National Night Out and a community-wide yard sale are three of the special events this summer for everyone to enjoy in Hawley Borough. Scott Mead, the borough's public works supervisor as well as the Hawley fire chief, is coordinating the second season for Movies in the Park. He said at the July 10 council meeting that they are held on the last Saturday of the month, beginning at dusk. The first one was held July 5 (rescheduled from June 29). The series runs through December, when they are planning two movies around the time of Hawley Winterfest.

Township Committee members on Wednesday, July 10 awarded a contract, not to exceed, $99,900, to AB Contracting, LLC of Wharton to turn the former police station, then later a teen center, on 212 West Mill Road into the storage facility after bids were received and opened on June 18.

I have been active for the past two years challenging the construction of a very large “warehouse” within the limits of Sparta. While the presence of what one might consider a traditional warehouse could bring environmental, safety and other challenges, what is actually proposed for construction is far different and greatly exacerbates the associated problems.
