Whether it’s through her teaching, volunteering, rescuing animals, and helping at the food pantry and even community gardening, Heidi Caruso is one fine human!. Caruso of Budd Lake has been nominated for Humanitarian of the Year by the Mt. Olive Area Chamber of Commerce. • Sparta resident Jacob Sledge, who majored in mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, completed a senior thesis required of all graduating seniors as part of the university’s distinctive project-based educational experience. The project, “Design and Fabrication of a Gas Turbine Engine,” was his major qualifying project. Sledge also was named to the spring dean’s list.

SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Education Foundation held their fourth annual Cornament on the turf field at Station Park. Forty-eight teams competed in the heat. There were four rounds of round-robin play followed by a single elimination final round. The Sparta Education Foundation provided grants to Sparta public schools with the proceeds of their fundraisers throughout the year. Movies in Bingham Park, National Night Out and a community-wide yard sale are three of the special events this summer for everyone to enjoy in Hawley Borough. Scott Mead, the borough's public works supervisor as well as the Hawley fire chief, is coordinating the second season for Movies in the Park. He said at the July 10 council meeting that they are held on the last Saturday of the month, beginning at dusk. The first one was held July 5 (rescheduled from June 29).
