City of Manhattan holds Furniture Amnesty Day
MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - The 10th annual Furniture Amnesty Day is happening today in Manhattan’s City Park. The annual event is free for all those who register. Registration for “shopping” opened at 8 a.m. on Friday. Shoppers registered for 15-minute slots from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Springfield city manager withdraws from job search in Manhattan, Kansas
After being named one of four finalists for a city manager job in Manhattan, Kansas, Springfield City Manager Jason Gage has withdrawn his candidacy. Gage has worked for the city of Springfield for six years. Gage was hired in 2018 after working in Salina, Kansas, for 18 years also as city manager. Manhattan Levee Project has cost city 23 million year-to-date
City Commissioners will hear an update, next week, from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City staff regarding the ongoing Manhattan Levee Project. The first phase of the project is nearly complete, and city staff are looking for direction on how to proceed with the next phases as projected costs have increased over $15 million since the 2019 project partnership agreement.
Sewer line maintenance is under way
Manhattan City sewer maintenance crews are performing large sewer line maintenance this week. Hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This work will be in the 300 and 400 blocks of 3rd Street and 4th Street, from Bluemont Avenue to Fort Riley Boulevard. Ensure all toilet lids are down and floor drains are covered. If your traps become dry and an odor occurs, pour water into the floor drain to air out the room and alleviate the odor.
Unemployment rates up across the region for June
Jul. 24—Unemployment rates in the region and the state went up again in June, according to preliminary reports from the Kansas Department of Labor. In Riley County, the unemployment rate reached 4% in June after it was at 3% in May. Geary County saw a jump from 4.2% in May to 5% in June. Pottawatomie County rose from 2.6% in May to 3.3% in June, and Wabaunsee County's rate increased slightly ...
