USDA Awards Grants to Beloit Auto & Truck Plaza, Stateline Dairy LLC of Morrowville to Lower Energy Costs and Create Jobs
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Kansas Rural Development Director Christy Davis has announced that USDA will help farmers and small businesses expand access to clean energy and lower energy bills through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). Today, Rural Development is investing $1,789,170 in grants that will support 15 clean energy projects across Kansas.
Kansas firefighters head west to battle raging wildfires
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Firefighters from across Kansas are heading west to help battle wildfires in Oregon and Idaho. On Thursday, the Kansas Forest Service said a team of 10 firefighters from different parts of the state, including Wichita, Olathe, Ottawa, and Edwardsville, are on their way to assist the Oregon Department of Forestry with 34 large fires, almost all of them in the central or eastern part of the state.

Man jailed for starting fire in basement of Kansas home
SHAWNEE COUNTY —Police investigating a fire at a home in Topeka have made an arrest. Just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, crews responded to a reported house fire at 1305 SW Western Avenue in Topeka, according to spokesperson Rosie Nichols. Firefighters found smoke coming from the home and fire in the basement. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and no occupants were located in the house. No injuries have been reported.

Madison’s Boomtown Cafe to close, future of Harry C’s Gasoline Alley to be evaluated
One eatery in downtown Madison is closing its doors, and the long-term future of another is unclear. Boomtown Cafe will close after lunch Aug. 2 after 14 months of operation. In a social media post, the restaurant says “we simply are not generating enough sales to support continued operations.” Owners are encouraging people who may be interested in taking over the Boomtown operations to reach out and discuss plans.
