Reservations open for Byllesby pavilion
Reservations have begun for the newly opened Richard Samuelson Pavilion at Byllesby Park near Cannon Falls. Reservations will be available beginning at 9 a.m. July 22, according to Goodhue County. All reservations must be made two weeks in advance and thus the first reservation is available on Aug. 5. The reservation system will stop accepting 2024 reservations on Oct. 17 for the final date of Oct. 31.

The Cannon Falls Chamber of Commerce is looking for Fiddle Players to participate in a Fiddle Contest, co-sponsored by the MN Fiddle Association, on Friday, Aug. 2. The contest will take place during Fun Fest on Mill Street. The Fun Fest will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. with the Fiddle Contest happening at 6 p.m. We are looking for fiddle players to participate!

Early one spring, roughly 30 years ago, a 100-plus year-old silver maple dropped a mammoth limb in the middle of our backyard. Being nighttime, we didn’t see it fall. But we heard it. The crashing sound superseded even the accompanying wind and thunder that kept us awake most of the night. Come morning we raced outside to see what had happened.
