Traffic deaths have increased during the first half of 2024 in New Jersey, bucking a national trend and concerning safety experts. As of July 2, 48 more people died in crashes compared to the same time in 2023, State Police fatality statistics show. A total of 314 people died on the roads this year, more than the 266 who were killed during the same time period in 2023, an increase of 18%.

A 45-year-old New Jersey woman inside a camper at a campground in upstate New York was killed by tree that fell during a powerful storm on Saturday, officials said. Carol E.
