FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The 2024 high school football season will kick off with a bang on Friday night, with the Leo at Bishop Luers showdown headlining the return of the Highlight Zone as your week one “Game of the Week!”

The Knights return to Luersfield with the 2023 2A state title in tow, as Kyle Lindsay’s team won the program’s 12th state title last fall and finished 12-3 overall. This season, however, the Knights move up to 3A per the IHSAA’s success factor. Leading the way will be senior Jaylen White, who tallied 40 receptions for 586 yards and 8 touchdowns last fall with 31 tackles and 2 interceptions on defense.

Leo, meanwhile, is coming off an impressive playoff run of its own, as the Lions reached 4A semi-state in coach Jason Doerffler’s second season, with the Purple Pride posting an overall record of 11-3. Leo is led by two-way standout Brock Schott, who topped the state with 19 sacks last fall as a junior and is committed to play tight end for the Miami Hurricanes. Army West Point commit Landin Hoeppner is also a playmaker for the Lions in the defensive backfield or as a receiver.

Kick is set for 7 p.m. at Luersfield. WANE-TV will be live during the 6 p.m. news from Luers to preview the game – then tune into the Highlight Zone at 11 p.m. for complete coverage on Fort Wayne’s longest-running & most-watched sports show!
