Humane Fort Wayne adopts out all dogs, cats still need homes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Humane Fort Wayne’s Clear the Shelter event ends day one on Saturday with more wagging tails than usual.

All 15 dogs at the shelter and a total of 28 cats were adopted on Saturday, with 30 cats still up for adoption on Sunday.

Gabriella Dunn, the content marketing specialist for the shelter, said the event is especially important as the animals move into the new shelter location at 901 Leesburg Rd.

“We’re always looking for animals to find their forever homes, but this week was particularly important,” Dunn said. “Since we’re moving into our new shelter, we want to move as few animals as possible to make things the least stressful for the pets.”

Sunday is the last day to adopt from the Hannah Street shelter location. Animals are available to adopt at the new location of Humane Fort Wayne Sept. 3.

Clear the Shelter runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the original location of the shelter on 4914 S. Hannah St. All adoption fees are waved. Cats range from three months to seven months old and vary in color and breed.
