FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Our 15 Fury Alert Day ends at 10 PM Tuesday night. Wednesday will still be very hot and humid, but it will be less dangerous than our Tuesday conditions, which brought the potential for heat index values around 105° and slightly higher.

No 90s in July 2024 after so many hot June days

Our 90-degree heat wave began on Saturday and we’ll see more 90s on Wednesday and, likely, on Friday, too.

Wednesday’s high temperature will be in the middle 90s, another day close to a record high.

Last August we experienced four 90-degree days. The longest streak of 90-degree heat or higher happened in August 1959 with 11 consecutive days of 90s. The current streak of 90-degree days will be more similar to August 2020 with five days of 90-degree heat in a row.

The longest streak of 90 degree weather happened in 1947

It won’t be much hotter than Monday but with dew points in the 70s, it will make your body very uncomfortable as your natural cooling system won’t work correctly. Your sweat doesn’t evaporate so your body doesn’t cool efficiently.

Take some steps to stay safe during this heatwave. Make sure you limit your time outdoors during peak daytime heating. Drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks indoors or in the shade if you have to be outside, and ensure you look before you lock your car to make sure you have all the kids and pets with you and out of the vehicle!
