Lima Area Concert Band puts on patriotic show before fireworks
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Plenty of families refused to let a little rain keep them from one of Lima's favorite 4th of July traditions. Every year, the Lima Area Concert Band performs patriotic music to get everyone in the mood for the fireworks display right after their show. They played songs like the Marine Corps march and mashups of classics like "The Yankee Doodle Boy" and "You're a Grand Old Flag."
Muskegon beats Locos in rain-shortened game
It might have been star spangled but the Lima Locos’ 9-2 loss to the Muskegon Clippers on Thursday at Simmons Field was less than spectacular. Lima’s Spectacular celebrates family, nation
LIMA — Wet weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of those gathered Thursday to celebrate the birth of this nation. In celebration of Independence Day, Lima community members gathered at Faurot Park for the city’s Star Spangled Spectacular. The event was held despite the rainy weather, which did not stop residents from participating in the festivities. From the morning 5K run/walk to the afternoon fishing derby, there were plenty of activities for the family to enjoy.
Annual 'Veterans Appreciation Cruise-In' puts the Vet in Corvette
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A car show tradition at the Star Spangled Spectacular puts the spotlight on veterans and car enthusiasts for their years of service. The "Veterans appreciation cruise-in" at Faurot Park featured close to 100 cars with a variety of makes and models, with some cars dating back to as early as 1920.

Rain or Shine-great turnout for the Annual 'Youth Fishing Derby'
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The city of Lima and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources teaming up to teach area kids the art of fishing. Through the ODNR grant program, the annual "Youth Fishing Derby" saw parents teaching their children and kids teaching each other how to fish. Each child was provided bait and a fishing pole to keep. Local organizations and businesses sponsored a variety of prizes to give out to the kids, and the derby is a fun and relaxing way to learn the basics of casting, baiting, and removing a fish from the hook.

Lima Symphony Orchestra is changing inmates' lives through music
LIMA, Ohio (WKEF) -- Lima Symphony Orchestra made history the afternoon on Sunday, June 30, as the first full orchestra to perform inside an Ohio prison. The orchestra performed alongside the prison choir of more than 100 incarcerated men in the prison yard of Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution (AOCI). The Patriotic Pops concert was the first time the Ohio Department of Corrections had ever allowed a full symphony orchestra to perform in a prison.
