The Wareham Gatemen (20-11-1) flexed their muscles in an 8-1 victory over the Brewster Whitecaps (12-18-2) in seven innings to keep pace with the idle Cotuit Kettleers in the race for the West Division title. The Gatemen scored five runs in the fourth inning and led 8-0 before the Whitecaps broke the shutout in the sixth.

Eli Putnam (Davidson) had a pair of hits, drove in two runs and scored one himself, while Antonio Jimenez (Central Florida) scored two runs and had two hits, which included a double. Aris Rivera (Polk State JC) recorded a hit and two RBIs. Tate McGuire (Arkansas) gave up two hits, walked one and struck out three in 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Jacob Faulkner (Princeton) improved to a 3-0 record after he pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings, where he gave up three hits, walked one and struck out one.

Colby Shelton drove in the only run for Brewster, which managed seven hits, left seven on base and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Kaeden Kent (Texas A&M) and Dallas Macias (Oregon State) both had two hits each. Florida’s Jack Clemente pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up five hits, five runs (all earned), struck out three, and fell to a 1-2 record.

    In other Cape League action:

    Y-D Red Sox 2, Bourne Braves 0

The Red Sox (19-9-3) ended the Braves (14-16-2) two-game win streak in a shortened game due to fog at Doran Park. Ethan Petry (South Carolina) had two RBIs and a bases-clearing hit to score the only runs of the game. Sean Youngerman (Westmont) pitched four one-hit and scoreless innings, walked two and struck out four, and improved to a 2-1 record.

Chase Meyer (West Virginia) pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up four hits, two runs (both earned), walked two and struck out seven in the loss. Marist’s Ethan Conrad had the ony hit of the game for the Braves.

Falmouth Commodores 8, Harwich Mariners 1

The Commodores (13-18-1) won their third straight game after they beat the Mariners (10-22), who lost a seventh straight outing. Oregon State’s Gavin Turley (two RBIs, one run), Louisville’s Zion Rose (two runs) and Oklahoma’s Jaxon Willits (one RBI, one run) each had two hits. Trent Caraway (Oregon State) had three RBIs. Parker Coil (Arkansas) pitched four innings, gave up one hit, one run and struck out two before Peter Phillips (Fairfield) took over and allowed just three hits and no runs in three innings of relief to earn the win.

Macon Winslow (Duke) drove in the Mariners’ only run in the fourth inning. Kansas State’s Andrew Evans gave up four earned runs, five hits, walked one and struck out four in three innings and dropped to an 0-2 record.

The Orleans Firebirds, Cotuit Kettleers, Chatham Anglers and Hyannis Harbor Hawks all saw their games postponed.
