Woman killed in crash with suspect vehicle during Warren Police pursuit

WARREN (WWJ) A woman was killed when her car was struck by a suspect vehicle involved in a pursuit with Warren Police.

Warren Police said, Saturday (6/29) around 3:15 a.m., two officers in full uniform and a fully marked patrol car were on routine patrol in the area of 8 Mile and Ryan, when they saw three Dodge Chargers traveling at a “high rate of speed” on westbound 8 Mile. Officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to stop the three cars for drag racing.

Police initiated a pursuit after all three of the Dodge Chargers “failed to stop for officers,” police said.

The Chargers split off and went in opposite directions as officers pursued them. One of the Dodges struck a Jeep Cherokee carrying a man and a woman, 42, at 10 Mile and Dequindre.

The victim was a passenger of the vehicle. She sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Dodge, 26; the driver of the Jeep and two passengers inside the Dodge were taken to the hospital. They are all in stable condition. The Dodge driver is in custody at the hospital.

Police are working to identify the driver of the second Dodge Charger. The third Dodge Charger involved in the incident returned to the scene, and police are interviewing all of the occupants.

Warren Police said the pursuit lasted about three minutes and traffic was light throughout. The investigation remains “active and ongoing” as they canvas for additional video footage of the pursuit.

The victim’s name has not been released as officers notify her loved ones.
