HOWLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Firefighters say a power surge caused a “smoke scare” at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital Wednesday.

Firefighters said when the hospital’s electricity source switched to generators, there was a light haze of white smoke in the lobby.

A spokesperson for the facility told First News that the hospital was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

Fire crews from Howland, the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Bazetta, Cortland and Brookfield all responded.

Firefighters say the hospital was given the all-clear after an electrician checked the facility and didn’t find any problems.
