Union proposes golf cart regulations for city-wide use
Regulations and requirements for operating a golf cart on public roads were discussed at the Union Commission meeting this Monday. Multiple neighborhoods in Union have requested that golf carts be permitted to operate in their subdivisions. Rather than giving each subdivision individual permits, Mayor Larry Solomon said golf cart operations would be much easier to regulate by passing a blanket ordinance for the whole city.
Doe Valley holds annual Independence Day Celebration with tons of fun!
On Saturday June 29th, the morning in Doe Valley started off with a 5K Fun Run hosted by the Doe Valley Representative Advisory Committee to celebrate the upcoming Independence Day holiday and kick off the day’s events with a bang. The run also offered a one-mile walk route for those that just wanted to get out and enjoy a brisk walk through the neighborhood. Although the weather was already warm and balmy by the race start at 9 am, the runners were in extremely good spirits. Kudos to the top winners in both male and female categories: 1st place- Clyde Dean (22:12); 2nd place- Lukas Spohn (22:47); Liam Rairdon (26:53); 1st place- Morgan Paden (28:26); 2nd place- Samatha Gerbine (29:56); 3rd place- Elena Spohn (34:15); Top 1-Mile Men’s Walker was Jonathan Huber (13:42) and the Women’s Walker was Myra Rairdon (13:52). Hats off to Bill Hobbs, the oldest competitor to complete the course at the young age of 83. The next tentative race day is Thanksgiving Day for a Turkey Trot.
Closure Planned on State Road 262 Near Rising Sun
The project is scheduled to begin July 15. (Ohio County, Ind.) – A portion of State Road 262 is scheduled to close on or after Monday, July 15. A bridge rehabilitation project will take place approximately 2.5 miles west of State Road 56 near Rising Sun and is expected to be in effect through mid-November.
Independence City Council agrees to move forward on early planning for splash pad
The Independence City Council heard a presentation on the specifics of building and maintaining a possible splash pad in the city at their meeting on Monday. The presentation was based on research by two council members, Carol Franzen and Greg Steffen, and Arron Cope of the city’s parks and recreation department. Following the presentation, mayor Chris Reinersman and the council agreed to move forward on early planning and engineering design work for a splash pad, which will help the city apply for a $250,000 grant aimed at offsetting construction expenses.
