Black infant mortality declines in Hamilton County
For the first time on record, Hamilton County achieved a Black infant mortality rate in the single digits, with 9.0 deaths per 1,000 live births. Additionally, Hamilton County has experienced a much faster decline in Black infant mortality than the national rate. Even with this positive progress, Black families were nearly 2.5 times more likely to experience infant loss than White families in 2023.

Fifty West Brewing Co. is an excellent greater Cincinnati-based craft brewery with both awesome beer and an awesome outdoorsy vibe. Its original location, which was revamped in 2022, is housed in a former roadside speakeasy on US Route 50 heading west into the city of Cincinnati (it opened in November of 2012). Even bigger now is Fifty West’s Burger Bar across the street, which looks like a classic ’50s burger joint. It’s a family-centric eat and drinkery, situated next to volleyball and pickleball courts, a big beer garden, picnic tables, party cabanas and an ice rink in the winter.

On Friday, the 513Relief Bus will be helping west side families arm themselves with important information and resources to help. The bus, a no-cost service from Hamilton County that provides services ranging from health screenings to economic relief programs, will be at the Sayler Park Recreation Center on Home City Avenue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.
