AFTON, Minn. — A Minneapolis man has died after being pulled from the St. Croix River east of the Twin Cities Wednesday, according to officials.The Washington County Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched at 9:41 a.m. to Afton State Park Beach for a possible drowning near the campgrounds. Witnesses at the beach said a 27-year-old man was swimming 20 to 30 feet offshore in about 12 feet of water when they lost sight of him. HASTINGS, Minn. — A 27-year-old man died after being pulled from the St. Croix River Wednesday morning. The Washington County Sheriff's Office says deputies and the county Water Rescue and Dive Team were dispatched to the beach area near the campground at Afton State Park just before 9:45 a.m. after reports of a man disappearing under the surface.
Man swimming in St. Croix River prompts emergency response
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office water rescue team was called to Afton State Park Wednesday morning on a report of a possible drowning in the St. Croix River. Witnesses called 911 at 9:40 a.m. to report a possible drowning involving a 27-year-old Minneapolis man in the area of the campsite beach area, said Cmdr. Tim Harris of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. They said he had been swimming 20 to 30 feet offshore in about 12 feet of water when they lost sight of him.
Drowning Reported At Afton State Park
KDWA Radio was on scene Wednesday morning, as Hastings Fire amongst a handful of other entities, including the South Washington County Dive Team were called around 10:15am to Afton State Park beach area, and responded to a call of a drowning. KDWA Radio was informed by Hastings Fire Chief John Townsend at approximately 11:30am, that the individual that drowned at Afton State Park has been found by the Dive Teams on site. KDWA will have more news on the drowning after the 4th of July holiday, and an investigation can be completed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the individual.
