James Wood, the number five prospect in baseball and recent recipient of the Minor League Player of the Week award, is now batting .353 with a .457 OBP and 1.021 OPS to go along with seven home runs and 10 stolen bases.

The 21-year-old is red hot at the plate, and Grant says it is past time for the top-ranked Nationals product to get the call to the majors.

“He looks big-league ready. He has for several weeks,” Grant said. “He was the best player in big league spring training. Not that close. Over a month of spring training games, consistently facing big league pitching day in and day out, James Wood was the best player on the Nationals.”

Grant understood keeping Wood in Triple-A early in the season, but as he hasn’t skipped a beat since spring training, he says the struggling Nats need to promote the former second-round pick to provide a jolt to this offense.

“I am officially, today, annoyed,” Grant said. “I thought he would be up last home stand.
That was the first time I thought, ‘Well this is kind of dumb.’

“There’s plenty of room on the roster…today is the first day of ‘Now I’m officially annoyed.’”
