    Jensen Earns Consideration For Lady Byng, Third Member Of Capitals To Be Voted For A Major NHL Award This Season

    Washington Capitals defenseman Nick Jensen received recognition from the NHL on Thursday, as he received consideration for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.

    Jensen earned one third-place vote, one fourth-place vote and four fifth-place votes for the award, which is awarded annually “to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability,” as selected by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

    Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin won the award.

    The 6-1, 205-pound blueliner is the third member of the Capitals organization so far to earn consideration for major NHL awards this season, as Spencer Carbery finished seventh in Jack Adams Trophy voting for the NHL's best head coach while Nic Dowd finished 30th in Selke voting for the league's top defensive forward.

    In 78 games this season, Jensen had one goal and 13 assists, as well as 62 hits and 123 blocks. He finished the year with just 10 penalty minutes.

    Jensen displayed sportsmanship and professionalism while playing a key shutdown role for Washington and skating 19:38 minutes a night. He is also regarded as a leader in the locker room and a solid veteran presence.
