Capitals Continue To Shake Things Up, Acquire Andrew Mangiapane From Flames

LAS VEGAS — The Washington Capitals are continuing to shake things up on the forward lines, as they acquired Andrew Mangiapane from the Calgary Flames ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft.

Washington sent Calgary a 2025 second-round pick in return, general manager Brian MacLellan announced.

Mangiapane had 14 goals and 26 assists for 40 points in 75 games with the Flames last season. He also had 72 high-danger scoring chances for at 5-on-5, the most on Calgary.

The Mangiapane trade comes eight days after Washington made waves by trading for Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Mangiapane is a strong forward option who can provide scoring and be a contributor at special teams and at even strength. He gets to the right areas and is a strong finisher, and when he’s on his game, he’s on.

The 28-year-old has one year left on his deal worth $5.8 million.
