DC, Arlington County Boil Water Advisory lifted by DC Water

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — DC Water lifted the Boil Water Advisory early Thursday morning after it went into effect for all customers in D.C. and Arlington County late Wednesday night.

All customers in D.C., the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery and Regan National Airport were under the advisory. Arlington also issued an advisory for residents County-wide as a precaution.

“DC Water advises tap water can be used for all purposes after it was confirmed that drinking water provided by the Washington Aqueduct never deviated from U.S. EPA established water quality standards as had been anticipated,” an alert from AlertDC announced just after 8:30 a.m.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District said that the Boil Water Advisory was issued after the Washington Aqueduct water supply recorded elevated levels of turbidity or cloudiness due to increases in algae blooms in the Potomac River.

“Under advice from the Washington Aqueduct, DC Water issued the precautionary boil water advisory as a conservative measure to protect public health, and we sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience while we took necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the tap water we deliver,” DC Water said in a statement Thursday morning.
