Diana Taurasi Receives Flagrant Foul For Unsportsmanlike Act on Mystics Foe

Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury are facing off against the Washington Mystics in a WNBA clash on Tuesday.

The game is taking place so early because it's "Camp Day" for the Mystics, which means that many of the game's attendees are children at summer camp.

Despite this young fanbase spectating, the WNBA game is getting very chippy between Phoenix and Washington.

At one point in the game, Taurasi received a flagrant foul for striking Mystics guard Ariel Atkins in the face with an elbow.

While it's unclear whether Taurasi's foul was intentional, the referees deemed the hit unsportsmanlike enough to give Taurasi a Flagrant 1 foul; which is when a player makes unnecessary, excessive, and/or unsportsmanlike contact with an opponent.

Atkins was ultimately okay after the hit and remained in the game.

Both Atkins and Taurasi also got twisted up in the aftermath, falling to the ground together as the foul on Taurasi was called.

Mystics head coach Eric Thibault was visibly upset after the foul.

Hopefully cooler heads can prevail as Tuesday's WNBA game in front of the kids continues.
