Marcus Mariota reacts to photo of young Jayden Daniels wearing his jersey

Marcus Mariota is only 30 years old, but to 23-year-old rookie Jayden Daniels, that could seem old. Mariota is beginning his 10th NFL season with his 5th NFL team after stints with the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, and Philadelphia Eagles. Mariota and Daniels could be considered competitors for the QB1 position for the Washington Commanders though the Commanders seem in no hurry to rush Daniels' development. Daniels has impressed many in training camp and is listening and learning from Mariota.

Mariota was recently shown a photo of a young Jayden Daniels sporting his Tennessee Titans jersey.  After getting over the feeling of being old, Mariota admired the jersey perhaps reminiscing about the team who selected him with the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. (Jameis Winston was selected first overall.) His best career season was with the Titans in 2016 when he threw for over 3,400 yards with 26 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions.

As is the circle of the NFL, seven years from now, Jayden Daniels could be shown a photo of an up-and-coming NFL rookie wearing his Commanders jersey when he was a child. Will Daniels think 30 is old then? Probably not.

All kidding aside, the Washington Commanders have a new look and feel in 2024 and the Mariota/Daniels quarterback room is part of the reason.  The team will hope to get off to a winning start in 2024 on the road in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with one of these guys as QB1.
