At Washington Commanders training camp, the Ron Rivera era continues to fade.

The budding trend continued over the weekend when the team made roster moves, adding defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth and releasing cornerback Christian Holmes, a Rivera seventh-round pick from 2022.

The Commanders had previously released receiver Dax Milne, another former seventh-round pick, who became the first Rivera-era pick to be let go by the new Dan Quinn-led regime.

Most notably, a former Rivera first-round pick could be on the chopping block soon if a position change doesn’t go well.

But at this point, that’s just the beginning of the possible roster churn this summer after a regime change. Only a few former Rivera draft picks—like guard Sam Cosmi and cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr.—are actually roster locks.

Even 2023 rookies like running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. and center Ricky Stromberg aren’t guarantees at this point despite the Commanders looking at something of a “rebuild” around franchise passer Jayden Daniels.

So goes the challenge Quinn and general manager Adam Peters face. While not unusual after an organizational shakeup, the remnants of the Rivera era could be few and far between on the field next season.
