WASHINGTON, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — She’ll be the first to tell you she’s a much better player now than she was a year ago.

Dani Guedet is an improving high school basketball player.

“A year or two ago, my confidence wasn’t really there,” said Guedet. “My post moves weren’t as good as now.”

The 5-11 forward has blossomed into scoring threat for Washington.

“Her footwork is continuing to improve,” said Washington coach Kim Barth. “She’s buying into running the floor in transition and shooting lay-ups. The sky is the limit for her.”

Guedet has become a key player for the Panthers who have gone from being a team filled with youngsters to a team that’s now filled with veterans. Guedet, Avery Tibbs, Rebecca McDougall and Mazzy O’Brien are part of a junior class that made significant contributions on varsity as freshmen.

“It’s different than the last few years,” said Guedet, “Our team has been younger, dominated by underclassmen. This year it’s more upperclassmen. Everyone is excited about that.”

This summer Guedet received her first Division I college offer, it came from Chicago State. More offers are likely on the way.

Her older brother JJ was a Division I football recruit out of Washington High School. She says watching his recruitment years ago has prepared her for her recruiting.

“I remember going on visits. It was fun to see (college) facilities,” said Guedet. “It showed how I have to work harder and how hard it is to get to that level. I’m excited to see if I can get to that level.”
