Steamy and stormy work week
PEORIA (25News Now) - Have the umbrella on hand as we will see multiple rounds of storm chances throughout the work week. Temperatures and humidity will also see an increase with highs trending in the mid to upper 80′s to even the lower 90′s this week. Our first round of storms will pass through Central Illinois early this morning before drier conditions arrive. A few additional pop-ups will be possible, but most will see a dry day after the morning storms. Highs will trend near 90 as humidity increases. A few strong to severe storms will be possible over the next few days, with the best chance arriving Tuesday afternoon and late Tuesday into Wednesday morning. A Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) is in place mainly along and west of I-55. All severe weather related hazards are possible included a brief spin-up tornado, damaging winds and isolated hail.

Two Illinois Men Sentenced for Conspiracy to Commit Bank Fraud, Bank Fraud, and Money Laundering (Rock Island, IL) – Two Illinois men – Erik Richard Jones, 46, and Mitchell Allen Melega, 38 – were sentenced on July 23, 2024, to multi-year prison sentences following their convictions for conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering. Jones, of Colona, Illinois, was sentenced to 54 months of imprisonment to be followed by five years of supervised release, and Melega, formerly of Orion, Illinois, was sentenced to 75 months of imprisonment to be followed by five years of supervised release. Both defendants were also ordered to pay $4,840,944.63 in restitution.

Man accused in shooting death of 18-year-old in Peoria’s East Bluff ordered detained
PEORIA, Ill. – A petition to detain a man accused in the shooting death of 18-year-old MikeQuese Taylor was granted by a Peoria County judge at a detention hearing Monday. The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 18-year-old Korion Hopkins is charged with First Degree Murder in connection to the April 30th shooting in the East Bluff. He will remain in jail until his trial.
