WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) — If you’re driving through the City of Washington, you might notice a new piece of artwork.

The city cut the ribbon on their “Viva La Vida” mural where they had an artist and hundreds of local students to complete the project.

“The whole concept of Viva la Vida translates to long live life or live life. And it’s a term that we use a lot in Latin America to enjoy life. We we work hard, but at the same time, we try to spend all the time with family and friends,” said Georges Le Chevallier, Mural Artist.

“It has been just such an amazing community project, I will say, because from the beginning, getting the community’s input, everything you see here is something that the community chose to have represented on the mural as a way to represent the Latino community here in the city of Washington. it is something that truly not only represents and celebrates the Latino community, but it also celebrates community,” said Abigail Cabrera, Latino Community Outreach Coordinator.

You can see the mural for yourself at the Bobby Andrews Recreation Center.
