WASHINGTON TWP., Ohio ( WDTN ) — Authorities converged on a local home and found a man dead after a woman called 911 saying she shot her boyfriend during an altercation.

According to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, a shots fired call was received around 11:50 a.m. on July 19. Crews were sent out to a home in the 10000 block of Dayton Lebanon Pike between Nutt Road and Social Row Road.

Sheriff’s deputies on scene told 2 NEWS that one person is dead after a shooting stemmed from a domestic violence situation inside the home. A 28-year-old man was shot and killed with a single gunshot wound to his body.

A 27-year-old female was detained along with witnesses inside the residence. Law enforcement on scene says the firearm has been secured and everyone inside the home is reportedly being cooperative as deputies investigate.

“A physical domestic violence situation was going on when the gun was produced and went off, was fired,” said Major Jeremy Roy. “Once our detectives are able to talk to everybody, sit everybody down, we will get a little more answers on what took place.”

There were multiple dogs found inside the home as well, some of which deputies say are aggressive. Montgomery County Animal Control is on scene to help manage the situation while investigation continues.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit.
