WASHINGTON CITY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV in Washington City Sunday morning, according to Washington City Police.

At around 7 a.m. on July 28, police received reports of an accident involving a red Jeep Rubicon and an older Harley Davidson motorcycle at Coral Canyon Blvd. and Telegraph St.

Officers learned the motorcycle rider — an adult male — had been ejected from the bike and was not wearing a helmet.

The rider was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Based on statements from the other driver and witnesses at the scene, police said the Jeep was heading eastbound on Telegraph St. when the driver began a left turn to head northbound on Coral Canyon Blvd. At the same time, the motorcyclist was heading westbound on Telegraph St., going through the intersection.

The motorcyclist collided with the front bumper of the Jeep as the Jeep was making the turn through the intersection, police said.

“At this time, it appears the driver of the Jeep did not see the motorcycle coming as it made the turn,” a press release from Washington City Police states. “The driver of the Jeep is cooperating with the investigation and at this time, no formal charges have been submitted as the investigation is still ongoing.”

Coral Canyon Blvd. at Telegraph St. was closed until around 1 p.m. Sunday while police conducted an investigation.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time, though police said he is believed to be a Washington City resident.

“The Washington City Police Department sends our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victim of this tragic accident,” the release states. “We also want to thank all those who assisted this incident.”

This case is under investigation at this time.
