House Republicans are poised to target Democratic candidates running in competitive districts who have accepted money from members of the powerful Soros family.
At least 24 Democrats running in competitive districts have accepted donations from George Soros’s son, Jonathan Soros; Jonathan’s wife, Jennifer; or George’s daughter, Andrea, during the second quarter of 2024, according to campaign finance data filed with the Federal Election Commission. Now, the National Republican Congressional Committee is homing in on those candidates in an attempt to tie them to what they consider “extremism.”
“These candidates who accepted Soros cash represent the extreme of the extreme,” NRCC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar told the Washington Examiner. “The Soros family is insanely out-of-step with Americans, and for these members and candidates to associate themselves with the Soroses means they too are out-of-step with the voters.”
The NRCC is targeting a number of candidates who are challenging vulnerable Republicans in crucial districts that could determine which party will win control of the lower chamber next year.
Those include: Shomari Figures running in Alabama’s 2nd District; Kristen Engel in AZ-06; Adam Frisch in CO-03; Josh Harder in CA-09; Adam Gray in CA-13; Rudy Salas in CA-22; George Whitesides in CA-27; Will Rollins in CA-41; Derek Tran in CA-45; Dave Min in CA-47; Christian Bohannan in IA-01; Curtis Hertel in MI-07; Monica Tranel in MT-01; Sue Altman in NJ-07; John Avlon in NY-01; Laura Gillen in NY-04; Josh Riley in NY-19; John Mannion in NY-22; Michelle Vallejo in TX-15; Missy Cotter Smasal in VA-02; Eugene Vindman in VA-07; and Marie Gluzencamp Perez in WA-03.
Each of the candidates received the maximum amount one can donate ($3,300) to a campaign during the second quarter in separate payments from both Jonathan Soros and Jennifer Soros, according to the FEC.
The group also highlights Mondaire Jones in NY-17, who received $3,330 from Jennifer Soros.
The NRCC is also targeting House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the top Democrat in the House, who accepted two payments of $3,300 from Andrea Soros, according to the FEC . Riley also received two payments of $3,330 from Andrea Soros.
Both Jonathan and Andrea have poured millions of dollars into Democratic-aligned groups as well as left-leaning politicians . Jonathan is known for working at his father’s Soros Fund Management from 2002 to 2011, even serving as the group’s chief investment officer before he stepped down.

The two have been tied to groups that Republicans denounce as too extreme, such as MoveOn.org, an organization that has advocated for defunding the police. Their father, George Soros, has also come under fire recently for financially supporting groups linked to pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses, as well as other anti-Israel groups .
It’s not clear if Republicans will make the issue a major talking point leading into the election, although it could serve as fodder for GOP candidates to tie their opponents to extreme positions in competitive districts.
