Corbett Fire douses blaze on embankment near Vista House
A small blaze had to be doused in the Columbia River Gorge during the ongoing hot, dry conditions. At 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, Corbett Fire had to clamber down the hill to douse a grass fire near the Vista House along the Historic Columbia River Highway. The wildfire, though small, was tricky to access. Firefighters had to use ropes to scale the steep embankment, running down a hose connected to an engine and water tender up by the popular tourist destination. Because the blaze was spotted so quickly, and Corbett Fire’s swift response time, the damage was minimal.
