Last Thursday, August 15, a 2008 Kenworth tractor-trailer crashed on the entrance ramp to I-95 from Route 17, aka Warrenton Road.

That truck was hauling concrete blocks, an estimated 51,000 pounds, according to VDOT.

The crash occurred at about 6:30 a.m., and VSP attributed the nearly 2 1/2 -hour ramp closure to the necessary cleanup.

Even after the ramp was reopened, concrete blocks were left behind. VDOT stated that crews would have to return later to finish removing them.

VSP reported that the 53-year-old driver, Hector O. Medrano Orellana, of Fort Washington, MD, was traveling south on the entrance ramp when he failed to maneuver the curve and the truck overturned.

Medrano Orellana was wearing a seatbelt and wasn’t injured.

VSP said he has been charged with reckless driving but this crash remains under investigation.
