Road construction impacting drivers in East Tennessee this weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — From a festival in Sevierville to several ongoing construction projects, WATE’s Bo Williams has what drivers need to know when traveling this weekend.

Starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19, Knoxville Utilities Board will begin a two-and-a-half-month project to upgrade the natural gas and water systems along and near the Cumberland Avenue corridor. This project will include several closures along Cumberland.

The annual City of Sevierville Bloomin’ BBQ Music & Food Festival will take place downtown on May 17 and 18. Several streets and parking areas will be closed during the event with all areas reopening on Sunday, May 19, at approximately 11:00 a.m.

The following streets and parking areas closed at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16:

• Municipal Parking Lot on Bruce Street.
• Bruce Street: from the Parkway to Citizens National Bank.
• Court Avenue: from Commerce Street to Joy Street.

The following roads will be closed on Friday, May 17:

• Bruce Street: from Forks of the River Parkway to Citizens National Bank-6:00 p.m.
• Court Avenue: from Commerce Street to the Central Hotel-1:00 p.m.
• Commerce Street-1:00 p.m.

TDOT has released its weekly construction report for May 17 through May 22 to share any ongoing or upcoming construction projects across the 24 East Tennessee counties.
