    Residents impacted by April tornado in Morgan County eligible for sales tax refund

    SUNBRIGHT, Tenn. ( WATE ) — Morgan County residents impacted by the April tornado may be eligible for a sales tax refund from the Tennessee Department of Revenue .

    Residents could receive up to $2,500 in sales tax refunds on major appliances and furniture purchased to replace damaged or destroyed items. It’s also available for building supplies used to repair or rebuild a person’s home. Only one claim can be filed per household.

    On April 2, an EF-1 with wind speeds of up to 105 miles per hour touched down in the Sunbright community. While an early warning has been credited for saving lives , the area was left with damage to buildings, homes, and structures.

    On April 5, the Morgan County Office of Emergency Management shared that those impacted were not eligible for federal assistance through FEMA . However, anyone who needs assistance following the storm is urged to fill out an Assistance Request Form and return it to the city.
